A music buff always looking to listen before buying, I really liked
WikiFM, a mashup between Last.fm and Wikipedia, that enables you to view artist and song information from Wikipedia while listening to Last.fm radio

It was interesting to discover in the librarianblog on privacy in Rollyo, the enormous difference between boomers and NetGens ( a category I hadn't even heard of ~ that's when you know you're old!) Whereas boomers are concerned about maintaining their privacy, NetGens 'want to be found and seen'

Podcasting and Online Hosted Video

Of all the social networking tools, I think Podcasting is potentially one of the most powerful because it combines audio with visual capabilities and transcends time limitations in terms of access. I recently used it to learn a knitting technique I just couldn't fathom from pictures in books. I would like to use in our library for teaching purposes as staff aren't always available when customers need help.

I'd seen the result of people having done this including some photos a friend directed me to , but had no idea until now how it worked. It could be useful for providing library staff biographies with photos to help staff identify us.

Web Office Tools

These would be a boon to organizations and especially one in which staff were geographically dispersed in terms of being able to collaborate. Also, the tools are free or relatively inexpensive compared with convential office products. It would appear to be the way of the future, as long as security issues were addressed/managed.

Social networking tools

Social networking can be used by MLA members to collaboratively plan meetings and conferences. It could also be used to allow job recruiters and seekers to communicate.

At this time, I don't FaceBook or MySpace would be especially useful for our Web site.

There are potentially huge privacy issues around social networking.

Overall, I found many of the FaceBook, MySpace and other social networking sites too busy. I can also see how social networking could eat up gobs of time.

Social bookmarking

Social bookmarking would be very useful for research in that it's like breadcrumb trails to more information. The convenience factor of being able to access from anywhere is huge.

Customers could subscribe to journal tables of contents and updates of key clinical Web sites
